Imagine the following situation: you are working on your home computer and you would like to have all your personal files accessible from work or vice-versa, but you don't have a USB memory stick. In this case, you could install a FTP server on both computers, for accessing the information from a remote location. But unfortunately, using the FTP service requires having a FTP client, which can take a lot of time to install. A much easier solution to this would be to use a software for sharing files and folders online. My Remote Files is exactly the software you need. This simple Windows application allows anyone to turn his computer into a file server and access all his files and folders from any location, using a simple web browser.

Thus, the user won't need to install additional programs, like a FTP client. The program is very simple to install and to use. When running it, it will automatically detect your network and external IP, in case you have a router for sharing your Internet connection. At this point, the user must create a new account. For this, he should enter a username and password and select the desired folder to be shared over the Internet. Additionally, he can make some supplementary adjustments, like enabling file uploading or setting the files to be fully accessible or read only. After the account is created, My Remote Files will run a series of tests, to ensure that everything is working properly and that the server is accessible from the Internet.

At this point, the user should only navigate to his IP address, input the username and password and that's it. He will then have access to all his files and folders and he will be able to browse them just like using Windows Explorer. Certain file formats, like images, can be viewed directly in the web interface, before they are downloaded. The program allows creating an unlimited number of accounts, each having its own shared folder and special settings.

A log file can be accessed from the program's graphical interface, which shows complete information about any user who has accessed the server, together with all his actions performed with the online files and folders.

Pros

It can turn the computer into a file server, making the user's personal files and folders accessible from anywhere. Besides that, every user account added to the program can have its own special settings, for example, file upoading. Furthermore, the log file included in the interface can display complete information about the program's functionality.

Cons

The program may not be compatible with every router, as the user may need to forward the port required by the program for making the file server accessible from anywhere. My Remote Files is a simple and useful software for turning any computer into a file server, making all your personal data accessible from the Internet.
